COURSE DESCRIPTION
Workers servicing or maintaining machines or equipment may obtain serious or fatal injuries if hazardous energy is not properly controlled. In this training, participants will learn the OSHA Lock, Tag, Try standards which require the adoption and implementation of practices and procedures to shut down equipment, isolate it from its energy source(s), and prevent the release of potentially hazardous energy while maintenance and servicing activities are being performed.

This lesson for authorized employees enables them to identify and establish a means of control to prevent the release of stored energy or the unintentional energizing/starting of machinery or equipment which could harm employees. This program establishes performance requirements for the control of hazardous energy.

Employers are required to meet minimum performance requirements and meet certain criteria for establishing and effective Lock, Tag, Try Program, however, they also have the flexibility to develop programs that are suitable for their organizations and personnel.

Δ Annual recertification may be required depending on the worksite regulations.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
  • Establish the purpose for lock, tag and try;
  • Identify the key components of an energy control program;
  • Identify the main elements that should be contained in lock, tag and try procedures;
  • Define key elements of a periodic inspection of the energy control device to restore energy and equipment;
  • Identify steps to follow to perform testing or positioning on a piece of equipment being repaired;
  • Recognize the importance of best practices for the most effective lock, tag and try program implementation and operation;
  • How to apply the lock, tag and try program at your facility;
  • Utilize the resource guide that includes the OSHA standard, checklist and contact lists.
  • Construct and implement an effective, compliant LOTO program, including an easy way to write the machine-specific procedures.

DESIGNED FOR

Any employee who locks out or tags out machines or equipment in order to perform servicing or maintenance on that machine or equipment.
